Two New
Position Papers

FoP published two new position papers here,  The first one is the Director recall vote paper that came with out letter to the membership earlier in September 2026.  The second one is on making the Community Design Committee (CDC) more member friendly and better suited to the future of our community.

Friends of Princeville (FoP) has developed and will publish position papers on Princeville’s future, Association management best practices, member communications, condo and timeshare needs, infrastructure priorities, and more, outlining practical steps to serve our community today and in years ahead. Check it out and come back often!

9.13.2026:  KIUC line crews along with personnel from HECO made repairs to transmission poles on the Hanalei side of Hanalei Bridge today and other clearing activities also took place on the North Shore. A significant number of line personnel will be deployed to the North Shore starting Monday, September 14. Based on observations and work completed over the past four days, it’s likely that the first restorations for North Shore members could take place early this week in portions of KÄ«lauea, Princeville and Hanalei.

Hurricane Lowell:
A Failure of Preparation and Leadership at PHCA

9-14-26:  Tale a look at this post  where "Friends of Princeville" argues that PHCA leadership failed to adequately prepare for Hurricane Lowell or organize an effective recovery response. It says the Board and management should have established emergency assignments, member communications, contractor and utility contacts, common-area inspections, debris removal plans, and structural and environmental assessments before and after the storm. The post calls the shortcomings a failure of leadership, particularly by the Board Chair and Vice Chair, and urges PHCA to adopt a formal, annually reviewed hurricane preparedness and recovery process.

Princeville after Lowell.

9-14-26: Princeville is slowly recovering from the impact of Hurricane Lowell. While power may still be out for several more days, residents are eagerly awaiting updates from KIUC (Kaua Island Utility Cooperative). Heavy repair equipment is visible as crews work diligently to restore electricity. With most tourists having left, the community has settled into a quiet rhythm, with neighbors coming together to support one another by sharing resources and charging batteries.
